Healthy Bites: Turn Up The Heat!
Healthy Bites To Top Your Chip
Pico De Gallo
When you think of chips and dip, you probably don’t rank them at the top of your healthy bites list. But, if you’re anything like me, you don’t mind putting in a little extra work to create delicious chip topping options that aren’t only good, but good for you!
At the top of my list is fresh, homemade pico de gallo. Simply combine ripe red tomatoes without the seeds (I prefer Roma), a deseeded jalapeño, white onion, cilantro, lime, and salt for a healthy and flavorful option to use on chips, tacos, and any other Mexican favorite.

Gaucamole
Guacamole is another one of my go-to favorites when it comes to healthy bites. I use guacamole on just about everything and love that it’s full of healthy fats and nutrients. For an easy guacamole, simply mix some of that fresh pico de gallo from above into some mashed avocados and add a clove of garlic or two. Voila!

Hummus
Hummus is another one of those versatile dips that is great on just about anything. Store bought hummus is good, but a little too tangy for my liking. I’ve found the best hummus dips are those that are homemade in my very own kitchen. Here is one of my favorite recipes for light, fluffy, and delicious hummus.

Corn And Black Bean Salsa
Another idea for healthy bites at your Super Bowl party is this colorful and delicious black bean and corn salsa. That’s right, this summer favorite is making its winter debut! This dish is so flavorful and down right addictive! I’ve made a number of variations of this salsa over the years and this recipe is one of the best I’ve tried!

For Serving Your Healthy Bites

Air-Fried Healthy Bites
Air-Fried Blooming Onion
Just a few years ago blooming onions wouldn’t exactly be considered “healthy bites”, but with air fryers becoming more and more mainstream, many no-no fried favorites have become don’t-mind-if-I-do go-to’s! This is my favorite recipe for the perfect blooming onion, just be sure to preheat your air fryer ahead of time and shake off all the excess flour and liquid prior to frying. I found this out the hard way. Pair it with your favorite dipping sauce and enjoy!

Air-Fried Potato Wedges
French fries are normally not considered healthy bites by any means. A few years back I was following a plant-based vegan diet and came across this recipe for no oil, fat-free, baked french fries. My family immediately fell in love with this recipe, and and to this day, is my go-to for delicious fries without all the guilt. Recently, I made these in the air-fryer, and to my surprise, came out even better! Get the recipe for yourself here.

Air-Fried Tortilla Or Potato Chips
Homemade potato and tortilla chips have never been tastier than with an air-fryer. Cut up your favorite tortillas into triangles, or thinly slice a potato (here’s where a mandolin slicer comes in handy) and spray lightly with cooking oil on both sides. Sprinkle with salt and seasonings (optional). Cook in your air-fryer until crispy for healthy take on an all-time favorite. You’ll definitely score big with these healthy bites. For the best cooking times, tips, and tricks, refer to the highlighted recipes above.
Dash “Fried” Pickles
Whether you’re following a keto diet or not, these “fried” pickles are so good!
Preparing Your Healthy Bites

Healthy Bites With Bread
Finger Sandwiches
Not only are finger sandwiches the perfect healthy bites, but there are so many easy-to-make varieties to choose from. Just grab your favorite low-carb or low-cal bread or wraps and get creative! There’s a finger sandwich out there for every diet!

Crostini Or Bruschetta
Here’s another great idea for easy, healthy bites for your Super Bowl celebration. When it comes to crostini or bruschetta, your imagination is the limit! Grab a baguette of your favorite bread and slice it to the desired thickness. Brush with olive oil (optional), bake, and top with your favorite toppings. My favorite is fresh mozzarella, tomato, and basil lightly drizzled with olive oil, but there are hundreds of variations out there. For inspiration, click here.

Fresh Healthy Bites With Fruits And Veggies
Ants On A Log
You may be thinking, “really?”, but I promise you, if you build these, they will come! There’s something so simple yet absolutely divine when it comes to ants on a log. Go ahead, test the theory for yourself and you won’t be disappointed!

Fruit Skewers
Simple, elegant, sweet, and delicious! Fruit skewers are easy, healthy bites that will disappear well before half time!

Cucumber Greek “Sushi”
Greek sushi is a creative and deliciously healthy take on the real thing. Simply cut an english cucumber into thin slices lengthwise (again, a mandolin slicer helps immensely) and spread with hummus or plain Greek yogurt. Top with your favorite traditional “Greek” veggies including tomatoes, Kalamata olives, and red onion. Crumble feta cheese on top, drizzle with lemon, roll up, and finish with a sprig of thyme. These are seriously so good! Here’s a great video for reference.

Thai Fresh Roles With Peanut Sauce
Fresh spring rolls are one of my favorite healthy bites and one I especially like to order from Thai restaurants. These are so good and totally worth the time and effort it takes to make them. Fill with rice noodles, thinly-sliced veggies (green peppers, carrots, cucumbers, lettuce, bean sprouts, and cabbage), and your favorite protein (tofu, shrimp, chicken, or none at all), and roll everything up together like a burrito using rice paper.
I like to use the lettuce leaf as a sort of boat to contain all the ingredients before rolling as it’s easy to pierce the rice paper if you’re not careful. I love eating these with fresh peanut sauce, but they also taste great dipped in ginger sauce, sweet chili sauce, sriracha, soy sauce, or any other Asian dipping sauce.

Thanks for reading! I hope you were able to find some healthy bites on this list for your own upcoming Super Bowl party. Remember, we don’t have to sacrifice flavor, or tackling our goals, to enjoy the big game! Go Hawks!
