Moms are great, aren’t they? I don’t know what I would do without mine. At 40 years old, I still rely on my mom for so many things. Whether I need advice, emotional support, family guidance, or babysitting, she’s always there for me and my kids. My mom is definitely the backbone of our family. When she’s not busy caring for us, she’s at the hospital caring for other people’s loved ones as a critical care nurse, where she’s worked for over 35 years. She’s an amazing grandmother to our children, and we’re so lucky to have her in our lives. That’s why it’s so hard coming up with a Mother’s Day 2021 gift idea for her.

Whenever Mother’s Day rolls around it’s always a struggle to figure out what to get her. I feel like flowers and candy just isn’t enough to express my gratitude for all she’s done and just how much she’s appreciated. Her job has always provided a great income, and so finding her something she actually needs or wants is a challenge. I’ve compiled a list of all the Mom’s Day gifts I’ve given over the years in hopes that it might help others out there struggling with the same dilemma. Below is my list of Mother’s Day 2021 gift ideas you probably haven’t thought of.

Mother’s Day 2021: A Photo Of Her Grandchildren
Photos are always a great gift idea because most people enjoy having them in their homes, but often don’t take the time to complete the projects themselves. What’s more, photos are an inexpensive option for people with tight budgets who still wish to make a big impact.

Last Spring, I had just given birth to my second baby. My niece, who’s 13 years younger than me, had just given birth to her first. Our daughters are two days apart. Since life at the time was centered around new babies, I thought it only fitting to tailor my gift around them. We all know what suckers grandparents can be when it comes to their grandchildren and that’s why I’ve included picture frames on my list of Mother’s Day 2021 gift ideas.

2. Mother’s Day 2021: Your Favorite Photo Of Her Or Her Own Mother
Another great gift idea for Mother’s Day 2021 is to give her a photo of herself. Find a flattering photo of mom that you love, or from when she was pregnant with you, and highlight it with a nice frame. To up your gift-giving game find a photo of her own mother, or better yet, a photo of her mother pregnant with her! You may have to do some digging under mom’s nose, but I promise you she will love it. Often, gems like these are stashed away in old albums or trunks somewhere and never receive the attention they deserve. It’s always great to give old photos a new life, and mom will surely appreciate the sleuthing.

3. A Handmade Stepping Stone For Her Garden
If your mom likes to garden, a homemade stepping stone is a great way to accent all of her hard work. Even if she’s not a gardener, a stepping stone is a great addition to any yard, especially when it’s handmade with love. You can purchase a round stepping stone mold and some stepping stone mix and create mom a handcrafted keepsake she’ll cherish forever. Get your kids to make handprints in the wet cement for a personalized touch, and add tiles or glass stones to create a light-catching mosaic. The sky’s the limit! You can never go wrong with a do-it-yourself gift. Taking the time to create something personal and thoughtful will show mom just how much she means to you.

4. Mother’s Day 2021 – Ancestry Genetic Test
For Mother’s Day 2021, give mom the gift of insight with a 23 And Me or Ancestry Genetic Test. These tests are a great way for mom to uncover missing links in her lineage and maybe connect with some long-lost relatives. After submitting the test, she can create a free account to view her genetic profile and connect with any DNA relatives she might match with.

My entire family has submitted tests, and since then, have been able to piece together our complete genealogy and link up with several family members we never knew existed. Moreover, we’ve been able to fill in branches of our family tree that were a mystery for years. Everyone wants to know where they came from. For Mother’s Day 2021, if your mom can get past the whole spitting in a tube thing, she’ll love uncovering her family history!

5. Plant Something In Her Yard
Another great gift idea for Mother’s Day 2021 is to plant something special in her garden or yard. This can be her favorite flower (maybe Mums?), a plant, or even a tree. But don’t just give it to her with a pretty bow on top. Dig the hole, prepare the soil, and plant it yourself. She will appreciate the extra effort.
Be sure to put it somewhere it will thrive, and where she’ll be able to see it from her living room, bedroom, or kitchen window. If you decide to go with flowers, make sure they’re of the variety to come back every year. This way, every Spring when her yard is in bloom, she’ll be reminded of just how much she’s loved and what a great kid she’s raised.

6. Mother’s Day 2021: A Birdbath
Yes, I know a lot of things on this list have to do with Mom’s yard, but that’s the wonderful thing about Mother’s Day, isn’t it? Spring is a beautiful time of year, and there’s no better time to celebrate Mom than when the sun is out and flowers are in full bloom.

A birdbath is a thoughtful gift for Mother’s Day 2021 and a beautiful addition to any yard. Mom will love seeing the life it brings when she’s working in her garden or entertaining in the summertime. I can personally attest to the quality of these birdbaths as I’ve purchased one for my mom, and one for myself. The one thing I will mention about the glass birdbath is that it will need to be put away for the winter (if mom lives in a cold region) to avoid freezing and breaking. Unfortunately, I learned this the hard way.

7. Amazon Kindle
If your mom is an avid reader, she’ll love the Amazon Kindle Paperwhite or Oasis. This compact E-reader comes in both 8 and 32 GB storage options, making it a great gift idea for any book-loving mom. Sweeten the pot this Mother’s Day with a subscription for unlimited book downloads through Kindle Unlimited, with the option to try it free for 30 days.
What’s more, upgrading to the Wi-Fi+Cellular model allows mom to download books wherever she may be, without the need for a wi-fi connection. Because it’s waterproof, mom can read while relaxing in a warm bubble bath or on a pool floaty with a cocktail in hand. The lightweight design and long battery life make it easy to throw in her purse and take it with her on-the-go, whenever a quiet reading opportunity presents itself.

8. Mother’s Day 2021: Ember Mug
Is your mom a coffee or tea drinker? Maybe you’re buying a Mother’s Day gift for your wife? Well, if she’s like me, I can never get through an entire cup of coffee without a million distractions. The baby will need her diaper changed, or my toddler will need to be taken to the potty. Whatever the reason, a single cup of coffee can take over an hour to get through. Sometimes, I’ll reheat the same cup twice before getting a chance to finish it all. On more than one occasion, I’ve discovered yesterday’s coffee in the microwave, that I never got a chance to drink!

My husband got me this cup for Christmas, and let me tell you, it’s been a game-changer! I liked it so much that I got one for him for his birthday. The Ember Mug is a smart mug that keeps coffee or tea piping hot for up to an hour and a half. Just set the desired temperature in the Ember App and rest assured when she comes back to it (God willing), it will still be hot. After using it, wash it out and set it on its charger so that it’s ready for the next hot beverage. It’s as easy as that!

Oh goodness!! Thanks for the ideas and the reminder that mother’s day is around the corner. I have lost so many days at this point that I just realized right now we are at the end of April! Time to get planning for my mother, and for myself because my husband certainly will not remember. Hmmm…what expensive gift do I want that my husband will go along with because he will feel guilty for forgetting?
