Romantic Christmas Dates For Couples

Christmas Date Idea #1: Ice Skating

Topping my list of romantic Christmas dates, ice skating! What better way to embrace the Winter chill than strapping on a pair of skates and taking to the ice with your honey? Most cities have an indoor skating rink to get your skate on, but this time of year, look for outdoor skating rinks that pop-up temporarily during the holiday season. Dress warm and prepare to have plenty of fun ungracefully stumbling across the ice with the one you love!

Romantic Christmas Dates #2: Large-Scale Light Displays

If you’re looking for inexpensive and romantic Christmas dates, you don’t have to look too far. No matter where you’re located, there’s likely a large-scale light display near you during the Christmas season. These are normally found at local zoos, parks, botanical gardens, and theme parks. Large-scale displays like these usually open up around the week of Thanksgiving and run through the end of the year. Their brief presence during the holiday season makes them a unique Christmas date idea for any couple looking to brighten up their night with a visual “de-light!”

Romantic Christmas Dates: Large trees with green and orange lights

Christmas Date Idea #3 Small-Scale Light Displays

One of my favorite romantic Christmas dates is simply getting a hot coffee or cocoa with my husband and driving around locally to check out all the cool neighborhood small-scale light displays. If you’re not sure where to find these, Google can definitely help, but I like to go on Facebook or Nextdoor and ask for suggestions from other locals in my area. It’s amazing what some neighborhoods and households do with lights and decorations year after year, not to mention it’s one of the most cost-effective Christmas date ideas for couples on a budget.

Romantic Christmas Dates #4: See A Christmas Play

One of the newest traditions my husband and I have adopted at Christmastime is going to see a Christmas play. Whether it be a small or large production, a Christmas play is a great way to get in the holiday spirit and makes for the perfect romantic Christmas date night. So far, my husband and I have seen two different adaptations of A Christmas Carol, The Nutcracker, and most recently, an off-Broadway production of Elf. Most cities have at least small-scale shows at the local community theater, but we prefer to make the short drive up to Seattle to see a more “official” and polished production. Not only is it one of my favorite romantic Christmas dates, but it’s also one of the most memorable!

Christmas Date Idea #5: See A Christmas Movie In The Theater Or Drive-In

Every year there’s at least one new blockbuster Christmas movie that hits theaters during the holidays. If you’re like me, you’ve seen just about every one ever made, so new releases are a wonderful thing to look forward to every year, and make an ideal Christmas date idea. A few years back we even made it to a Winter drive-in movie and it was one of the most romantic Christmas dates we’d ever been on. Don’t let the rain or even snow spoil your good time. Turns out, it can be extremely fun and memorable.

Romantic Christmas Dates #6: Watch A Christmas Movie At Home

My husband and I love curling up to a warm fire and putting on a holiday movie to enjoy by the twinkling lights of our Christmas tree. What could be better than sipping a hot toddy or cocoa while snuggling up tightly with the one you love? The answer? Not very many things. So, get in your cozy matching couples pajamas and relish this comfy Christmas date idea, because it only comes around once a year.

Christmas Date Idea #7: Go See A Christmas Concert

In just about every city in every town, there’s likely to be at least one or two Christmas concerts during the holiday season. These might include local community orchestras or symphonies in your area, or if you live by a major city, check out one of the bigger touring shows like Mannheim Steamroller or Trans-Siberian Orchestra. My husband and I were lucky enough to see TSO a few years back and it was a totally rockin’ show! Coupled with a fancy dinner, it’s an amazing and romantic Christmas date idea you have to experience at least once!

Romantic Christmas Dates #8: A Romantic Weekend Getaway Together

While you can do this any time of year, a romantic getaway just feels a little more special during the Christmas season. Find a quiet cottage, cabin, or spa retreat and just relax in the country with your honey during this magical time of year. If you’re lucky enough to live in a state that has a Dutch or German attraction town like Leavenworth, WA, Solvang, CA, or Frankenmuth, MI, I highly recommend paying them a visit during the holiday season. These little towns know how to do Christmas right, and to describe them as “charming” or “enchanting” is a complete understatement. There’s no better Christmas date idea than a romantic retreat with the one you love, so pack your bags an prepare to create wonderful memories that will last a lifetime!

Christmas Date Idea #9: Couples’ Picture With Santa

Sure, we’ve all taken the kids to get pictures with Santa, but if you don’t mind being a little bit cheesy, then a couples’ photo with Santa is a cute and fun Christmas date idea. Who cares what the other people in line are thinking, it isn’t about them. Have your photos made into ornaments you can hang on the tree and start a tradition you can look back on and giggle at year after year.

Romantic Christmas Dates #10: Take A Christmas Train Ride

Did you know that most states offer Christmas-themed train rides that will take you on a magical journey to the North Pole and beyond? Many states have already been doing this for decades, but the activity has gained new attention and popularity since the movie The Polar Express was released in 2004. In fact, the Polar Express is one of the most popular nation-wide Christmas trains you’ll be able to board during this holiday season, so be sure to Google locations in your area! Full of stunning views, on-board entertainment, and holiday cheer, if you’ve never experienced something like this before, then be sure to check out this elaborate and romantic Christmas date idea!

Christmas Date Idea #11: Go To A Tree-Lighting Ceremony

If you’ve never gone to a tree-lighting ceremony before, it’s definitely a fun and romantic Christmas date idea worth checking out. Surely, you’re familiar with New York City’s world-famous ceremony at Rockefeller Center, but most major cities (and even smaller towns) have their own tree-lighting celebrations to mark the beginning of the holiday season. Be sure to dress warm and grab a cup of hot cocoa while you watch your own town light up with the Christmas spirit!

Romantic Christmas Dates #12: Do You Want To Build A Snowman?

Playing in the snow definitely makes my list of romantic Christmas dates! Building a snowman is so much fun, especially when you get to share it with the one you love. Maybe you’re a little more adventurous and enjoy snowshoeing, skiing, snowboarding, or inner tubing down the slopes of your favorite local ski resort? Either way, enjoying the snow with your sweetheart is a wonderful Christmas date idea! If you live in an area that naturally sees snow during Wintertime, even better! Bundle up, grab a sled, and enjoy the wintery wonderland before it melts away!

Christmas Date Idea #13: Go To A Christmas Party

Between your friends, your job, and your honey’s job, there’s bound to be a Christmas party to attend somewhere. If not, throw your own! While it may not be one of the most romantic Christmas dates, it certainly is a fun one! Whether you’re dressing to the nines or simply donning your ugliest Christmas sweater, Christmas parties are a wonderful way to create lasting memories with your honey for years to come. So, grab a cup of spiked egg nog, some mistletoe, and get ready to have a Christmas date night you’ll remember forever!

Christmas Date Idea #14: Pick Out A Christmas Tree Together

Sometimes, the best Christmas date ideas don’t take much planning at all, like searching for the perfect Christmas tree. A lovely stroll through a moonlit tree farm, sipping a cup of hot apple cider with your significant other, is a fun and enjoyable way to spend quality time together while creating warm holiday memories. Romantic Christmas dates like these easily become traditions you and your love can look forward to year after year!

Christmas Date Idea #15: It’s Lovely Weather For A Sleigh Ride Together

While not as easy to come by, some cities offer seasonal “sleigh rides” during the holiday season. This is by far one of the most romantic Christmas dates you’ll ever go on. Tour your city from a horse-drawn carriage or wagon while sipping hot cider next to your sweetheart. If you should be so lucky to book one of these charming sleigh rides, I’m confident it will become one of the most magical Christmas date ideas you’ve ever had!

Christmas Date Idea #16: Shop For Candy Together And Make A Gingerbread House

If you’re in search of romantic Christmas dates that add a little sugar to your night, then it’s time you built a gingerbread house with your beloved. If you’ve never built a Gingerbread house before, it can be such a fun and “sweet” Christmas date idea. If there’s a local candy shop in your area, be sure to stop in so that you can customize your ideal gingerbread dream house! Set the mood with some Christmas music and take turns feeding each other globs of frosting before retiring to the bedroom for some more “dessert”.
