This Spooky Graveyard Halloween Taco Dip is absolutely to “die” for and so easy to make. Not only is it tasty, but it has the perfect amount of spice to “wake the dead”. This recipe is great with a number of different additions and is fully customizable using any of the optional toppings below. It can be served either warm or chilled. For a darker “soil”, make a black bean taco dip by substituting 2 cans of refried black beans. Feel free to get creative with your graveyard scene as decorations will vary based on your local Halloween and dollar stores.
I originally created this easy Halloween taco dip after searching for creative and themed appetizers for a holiday party at my place of work. I was surprised at how few spooky-themed ideas there were on the internet aside from decorated sugar cookies and desserts. I figured everyone else would bring something sweet, and I really wanted to bring something savory.
I was extra motivated to create something original as my work was hosting a contest for the most spooky dish and I was determined to win! After shopping at my local Halloween and dollar stores, I came up with the idea for this graveyard Halloween taco dip that turned out to be both tasty and frightening! If you’re looking to create something similar for your next Halloween party, be sure to check Amazon as well as your local Spirit Halloween Store for extra inspiration. As you probably already guessed, my dish won first prize!
Easy and Spicy Spooky Halloween Graveyard Taco Dip
For The Dip:
- 2 Cans Traditional Refried Beans (use refried black beans for a black bean taco dip)
- 1 8 oz. Packet Of Cream Cheese, Softened
- 1 16 oz. Container Of Sour Cream
- 1 4 oz. Can Diced Green Chiles
- 1 Packet Taco Seasoning Of Your Choice
- 1 Tsp. Ground Cayenne Pepper (optional)
- Halloween/Dollar Store Graveyard Figurines
- Shredded Cheddar Cheese
- Shredded Iceberg Lettuce
- Sliced Olives
- Fresh Diced Tomatoes
- Diced Green Onions
- Fresh Chopped Cilantro
- Diced Avocado
In a medium-sized mixing bowl, blend together the refried beans, cream cheese, sour cream, green chiles, taco seasoning, and cayenne pepper until smooth.
Spread into a 9×13-inch pan. Chill in the refrigerator for 1 hour before decorating. It would be a “grave” mistake not to.
While the Halloween Taco Dip is chilling, crush 1-2 cups of Fritos in a Ziploc bag (depending on how many graves you’ll be making).
When the Halloween Taco Dip has firmed up, form oval-shaped graves by laying down mounds of crushed Fritos in front of each headstone. Decorate with skulls, ghosts, mummies, spiders, skeletons, or whatever else you can find. I mixed salsa into the top layer of my Halloween Taco Dip for a “bloody” look. Feel free to get creative with your decorating, the possibilities are…frightening!
“Dress up” individual servings with lettuce, tomatoes, salsa, shredded cheese, or any other toppings you desire. Serve with tortilla chips or Fritos. This recipe can easily be made low-fat or vegan by substituting the sour cream, cream cheese, and beans with vegan or low-fat versions. *Nutritional information is calculated without Fritos.
