Have you ever spent the night in a hotel and marveled at how comfortable the bed is? I have. In fact, I make it a point to book my reservations with Marriott hotels as often as possible because they have the most comfortable beds! But, what if I told you it’s possible to turn your own bed into the most comfortable bed ever? After all, you deserve it! Below are my sleep solutions for the most comfortable and restorative night’s sleep you’ll ever have!

When I was a little girl I was extremely afraid of the dark. I always found comfort and safety in my parent’s bed. In fact, I spent a lot of time in my parent’s bed. Since my mom worked nights as a nurse, a lot of my childhood was spent curled up in their bed after school watching cartoons and old reruns of the Brady Bunch while my mom snoozed. Big squishy pillows and heavy warm blankets surrounded my little body and I remember thinking, “when I grow up I’m going to have a comfy bed just like this”.

My husband and I are both sleep lovers, and we take our sleep pretty seriously. With two toddlers, we don’t get a lot of it, so when we do, we make sure it counts. You’d be surprised what kind of sleep solutions a comfy bed can provide, from soothing general aches and pains to reducing stress and lowering your risk for serious illness. So, just like our house and our car, we decided to invest in a high-quality comfortable bed. While it took us a few years to pay off, it ended up being one of the best investments we ever made, not only in our sleep but in our health.

Just after our son turned 3, he started getting really scared of the dark. Every night we struggled to get him to bed and almost every night he would wake up crying only to wind up in our bed. We tried getting him a new comfortable bed of his own as well as trying a number of other sleep solutions to keep him in his own room. Nothing worked. My daughter has co-slept with us since day one, and after a while, we realized getting Jameson to stay in his bed was a battle we weren’t going to win. Needless to say, all four of us now share a bed.
Our kids will only be little for so long, so I realize this minor inconvenience won’t last forever. I love knowing they feel safe and loved, and aside from a few knees and elbows in our backs, we all get a pretty good night’s sleep. So, without further ado, I’m going to share my best sleep solutions for making a comfortable bed no matter what your budget is! Don’t worry if what you have to build on isn’t perfect, heck, I have two toddlers in my bed every night. You’ll still be able to make a really comfortable bed no matter what you’re working with!

Sleep Solutions Tip 1: A Comfortable Mattress
Perhaps the most important thing to consider when creating a comfortable bed is the mattress. Choosing a mattress is a lot like choosing a pair of shoes. You really don’t know how you’re going to like them unless you try them on first. My best tip for picking the right mattress is to shop around and try to find one that offers a trial period. Often, you won’t know if you really like a mattress until your body (and the mattress) has a chance to adjust. That being said, the following mattresses are great and reasonably priced options if you don’t have the time or patience to shop in person or do the research.

Best Firm Mattress: Ashley Chime Memory Foam Mattress
Best Hybrid: Mercer Cool Gel Memory Foam And Innerspring Mattress
Best Plush Mattress: Sweetnight Gel Memory Foam Mattress (Flippable Firmness)
Best Bang For Your Buck: Vibe Gel Memory Foam Mattress

Sleep Solutions For A Comfortable Bed Tip 2: Mattress Topper
Let’s say you have a perfectly reasonable mattress already. Maybe you’re just not looking to spend that type of money right now? Whatever the case, the next best thing for improving the comfort of your bed is simply adding a mattress topper. Mattress toppers go a long way when it comes to increasing comfort and offer a number of sleep solutions for back pain, joint pain, and overall restfulness. Just like a mattress, you need to do your research. When shopping for a topper consider breathability, material, whether or not it will slide around, as well as the degree of firmness you’re trying to achieve.

Sleep Solutions Tip 3: The Base
Bed frames not only make your bed look more grown-up, but they elevate it off the floor and protect your mattress and box spring from dust, moisture, bugs, and more. Any bed frame will do for this purpose, and there are plenty to choose from in any price range, color, and style. But, if you’re looking to elevate your bed (no pun intended) for maximum comfort, consider investing in an adjustable frame. An adjustable frame allows you to elevate your head, feet, or both for a sleeping or sitting experience that is unmatched! My husband and I have an adjustable bed, and our only regret was not purchasing a split frame so that we could both adjust our individual sides. What’s more, some adjustable frames come with massage options and under-bed LED lighting!

Sleep Solutions For A More Comfortable Bed Tip #4: The Pillow
One of the simplest adjustments you can make for a more comfortable bed is choosing the right pillow. While the concept is simple enough, it’s not always easy to find the right pillow for you. Pillows are tricky, and I can’t tell you how many pillows my husband and I have gone through in order to find the perfect ones. I think where most people go wrong, including myself, is not choosing the right pillow for the type of sleeper they are. For instance, someone who sleeps on their back will likely require a different pillow than someone who sleeps on their side or belly. Since I’m rarely dissatisfied with hotel-quality pillows, I normally narrow my search to pillows with like designations. With that said, here are my recommendations for the perfect pillow.

Sleep Solutions Tip #5: The Comforter
My favorite thing about Marriott hotel beds is the amazingly comfortable duvet. Their down comforters are extremely comfortable yet not too heavy that they make you feel hot or smothered. They’re meant to be used year-round and believe me when I say they do not disappoint! They also offer down-alternative options that are just as comfortable but for a more affordable price. If you’re not into the feel of a down comforter, check out my other comforter suggestions for a comfortable bed with a price tag anyone can afford.

Sleep Solutions For A Comfortable Bed Tip #6: Quality Sheets
Last but certainly not least in your efforts to make a more comfortable bed are the sheets! Sheets are perhaps the easiest yet most transformative way to make your bed comfier and get a more restful night’s sleep. When searching for the perfect sheets, consider texture, breathability, and material. Sheets are another one of those things that are very personal to each individual, so take your time when shopping around and be sure to read reviews when purchasing online. Again, I always shop for hotel-quality sheets and have yet to be disappointed.

Microfiber
I am definitely a microfiber convert! If you’ve never tried microfiber sheets before, you don’t know what you’re missing! These sheets are so soft, smooth, and high-quality and I very much prefer them over cotton or Egyptian cotton sheets any day! Give them a try for yourself!

Sleep Solutions Tip #7: BedJet Climate Comfort System
If you really want to take your sleeping experience to the next level, then I highly suggest investing in a BedJet Climate Comfort System. Climb into a perfectly warm or cool bed every night a drift immediately off to sleep! My husband got one of these for me for Christmas a few years back because I would always complain about having to climb into a cold bed every night. Prior to this life-changing upgrade, I would occasionally bring the hairdryer in bed with me to warm my feet because I hated shivering for a half hour before my body heat warmed the bed.

When I opened this BedJet on Christmas morning, I have to admit I was a bit skeptical. Today, I cannot sleep without it. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! This last Mother’s Day we bought one of these for my mom because she always heats up rice pillows for her feet. Needless to say, my parents love it.

I hope you enjoyed these sleep solutions for creating a more comfortable bed. Remember, investing in your sleep is an investment in your health!
